Stokes Cycle Club - Bike Ride

The ride:

Starting from Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre at 9:30am, this 25-mile ride wends its way through the villages and lanes of the River Severn's flood plain to Oldbury-on-Severn and back to Bradley Stoke in time for a (late) lunch. The pace of the ride will be determined by the riders on the day, but will be no faster than 10-12 miles per hour. There are hills, but we don't plan on riding up them quickly and will happily walk up them or wait at the top so that everyone can ascend at their own pace.

The reason:

Abigail is 9 years old and lives in Bradley Stoke. Cerebral Palsy mainly affects her legs making balance, sitting and walking a struggle. She is reliant on a wheelchair and dependant on her parents and carers at school. This event is being held to contribute towards funding an operation for Abigail that will help her walk and become more independant. It will take place in America as it is not available in the UK. Please help a local youngsters dream come true and join us in this fundraiser.

Important Information

This is not an Stokes Cycling Club ride. The SCC have organised this ride in conjunction with Footsteps 4 Abigail to help raise funds for Abigail. Participation in this ride is entirely at your own risk. The organisers shall not be held responsible for any injury, illness or loss that may occur during, or as a result the ride.

Please can all riders:

  • ensure their cycle is in working order before joining the ride
  • carry at least pump and puncture repair kit. You may also wish to carry a small tool-kit for 'running repairs' as there are no mechanics on the route.
  • wear/carry appropriate clothing for the weather conditions
  • carry sufficient water for the ride. Riders will be able to purchase refreshments at the rest stops on-route and we will be stopping for a longer break at Oldbury-on-Severn.
  • be mindful of vehicles and fellow riders at all times. Whilst this ride is primarily on quiet and rural roads, there are some busy junctions to negotiate.
  • obey traffic signals and signs
  • be aware that this is not a race and the route is not signposted. Experienced SCC riders will guide the group.
